PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's cross country team earned an at-large selection to the 2023 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship. The race will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va. The women's race will begin at 10:20 a.m. ET followed by the men's race at 11:10 a.m. ET.
The Friar women will be returning to the NCAA Championship for the 31st time in program history. This will be the program's third consecutive appearance. In 2022, the Friars tabbed a 16th place finish. The women's team has won the national title twice in program history, in 1995 and 2013.
Providence added to its NCAA resume on Friday, placing third at the NCAA Northeast Regionals in Bronx, N.Y. Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) continued her strong junior year campaign by finishing second overall (19:37), out of a field of 268 runners. Seniors Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) and Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) were the second and third runners across the line for Providence. Flockhart moved through the field to place 13th (20:09.5) overall and Mooney finished 27th (20:31.8).
Rounding out the top-five were senior Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) and freshman Reese Fahys (East Greenwich, R.I.) placing 45th(20:51.7) and 50th (20:53.9), respectively.
Based upon their performances at regionals, Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) who placed sixth in 29:51 and Abdel Laadjel's (Lucan, Ireland) who placed ninth in 29:55 qualified as individuals and will represent the Friars in the National Championship.
