Men's Lacrosse Takes On Georgetown In BIG EAST Home Opener

Face-off is set for Saturday, April 9 at 12:00 p.m. at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I.

PROVIDENCE TAKES ON GEORGETOWN FOR BIG EAST HOME OPENER..
Providence College will welcome the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday, April 9 at 12:00 p.m. at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. This is the BIG EAST home opener for the Friars.

SERIES BREAKDOWN... 
Since 1987, the Friars and Hoyas have met 15 times. Georgetown leads the all-time series, 13-2. Most recently, Providence fell to Georgetown, 14-5, in Washington, D.C. to conclude the 2021 regular season.

PROVIDENCE DEFEATED BY MARQUETTE, 16-11...
Providence kicked off BIG EAST paly with a road trip to Milwaukee, Wis. this past Saturday, Apr. 2. The Friars fell to the Golden Eagles, 16-11. Two Friars – Evan McGreen and Ryan Bell recorded hat tricks while Matt Grillo recorded his 100th career goal.

GRILLO GETS 100...
Senior attackman Matt Grillo recorded his 100th career goal as Friar this past Saturday against Marquette. He will is the fifth Friar to reach the milestone behind Ed Loiselle '92, Ken Leahy '00, Chris McManus '97 and Mike Chapey '86.
 
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN... 
Georgetown comes to Friartown, 8-1 overall (1-0 BIG EAST) after defeating Denver in their conference opener last weekend, 17-9. Three players earned BIG EAST weekly honors from the win, Dylan Watson (Attack Player of the Week), Alex Trippi (Midfield of the Week) and Will Bowen (Defensive Player of the Week).

The Hoyas were selected first in the 2022 BIGEAST Preseason Coaches Poll, receiving 25 votes and five first place votes. 
 
PLAYERS TO WATCH...  
Senior Dylan Watson leads the Hoyas in points (36) as he leads the team with 34 goals. Most recently Watson had a career-best day against Denver, with seven goals. He is followed by Graham Bundy Jr. and Alex Trippi who each have tallied 33 points over the season. Will Bowen leads the team in caused turnovers (18) and has collected 27 ground balls.

Owen McElroy and Michael Scharfenberger have split time in net for the Hoyas. McElroy has a team-high 90 saves with a 8.28 goals against average over seven starts in net while Scharfenberger has 25 saves and a 9.15 goals against average through four games played.

WHAT'S NEXT... 
The Friars travel to Villanova, Pa. to take on the Villanova Wildcats. Face-off is set for 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 16.
