Alvarez and Abbatine Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Senior Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) was named the BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday, March 14. Graduate student Micaela Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) was also recognized and named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. This marks the first BIG EAST weekly recognition of the season for both Alvarez and Abbatine.

Alvarez earned three wins last week including a pair of wins over Seton Hall in BIG EAST play. She pitched 17.2 innings last week, posting a 1.58 ERA. Between both games against Seton Hall, she only allowed two runs and five hits. Alvarez has held batters to a .224 batting average this season and has struck out 41 batters.

Abbatine went 4-for-8 at the plate between three games last weekend, posting a .500 batting average. She recorded one run and one RBI in the Friars 2-1 win over Seton Hall on Friday, March 11. Abbatine is the team's second-best hitter recording 17 hits and a .340 batting average on the season.

The Friars will return to action on Wednesday, March 16 in a double header against Merrimack College on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
