PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The USTFCCCA released its latest Regional and National Coaches' Poll today (August 31). The Providence College women's cross country team is ranked second in the Northeast Region and 26rd in the nation. The men's cross country team is ranked fifth in the Northeast Region.
The nationally-ranked Friars will be led by graduate student
Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) and juniors
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) and
Orla O'Connor (Waterford, Ireland). Coffin finished sixth in the 5,000 meter at the BIG EAST Championships in May and 15th in the 10,000 meter semifinals at the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. Tuck placed third in the 5,000 meter at the BIG EAST Championships and 18th in the 5,000 meters in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. O'Connor placed third in the 10,000 meter at the BIG EAST Championships in May.
Graduate students
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) and
AJ Ernst (Marblehead, Mass.) will lead the men's team. Rocha finished ninth in the 10,000 meters semifinals at the first round of the NCAA Championship and 18th in the 10,000 meters final of the NCAA Championship while marking the third fastest time in school history. Ernst Placed 11th overall and earned Second Team All-American honors at the NCAA Championships in June in the 1,500 meters.
