BOSTON, Mass. – The No. 9 Providence College women's hockey team was defeated by No. 1 Northeastern, 6-2, in the Hockey East Championship game on March 6 at Matthews Arena.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-Northeastern jumped on the board early with a goal from Katie Cipra, 1-0, at 4:07. The teams skated through the rest of the period scoreless.
-The Huskies increased their lead, 2-0, with a goal from Tessa Ward 6:25 into the second period.

Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) responded for the Friars with their first goal of the night less than two minutes later (8:05), cutting their deficit by one, 2-1. Peterson was assisted by
Ariane Julien (Saint Hyacinthe, Quebec) and
Chloe Gonsalves (Toronto, Ontario) on her eighth goal of the season.

Maureen Murphy re-gained the two-goal cushion for the Huskies at 13:37. The Friars entered the second intermission down 3-1.
-The Huskies netted two more goals early in the third on tallies from Molly Griffin and Miceala Sindoris to extend their lead to 5-1.

Giana Savastano (Mapleville, R.I.) netted her first career goal to cut the deficit to 5-2. Savastano was assisted by
Ariane Julien and
Chloe Gonsalves, each earning their second assists of the night.

Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) was pulled from net for the extra attacker, after Northeastern's Andrea Renner was sent to the box for body checking just twelve seconds after Becker was whistled for interference.
-Skylar Fontaine scored the final goal for the Huskies into an empty net (18:16), finishing the game out at 6-2.

Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and
Caroline Peterson were named to the 2021 Hockey East Women's All-Tournament Team.
-Abstreiter finished the night with 41 saves, passing her 1,000 career saves mark with 1,005.
-It was Providence's first Hockey East Championship Game appearance since 2012.
