ERIE, Pa. – The No. 9 Providence College women's hockey team was defeated by No. 2 Wisconsin, 3-0, in the NCAA Quarterfinals on March 16 at Erie Insurance Arena. The Friars, appearing in their first NCAA Tournament game since 2005, conclude the season at 12-8-1 overall.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-The Badgers struck first with a goal from Brette Pettet at 12:54 of the opening period. The Friars went into the first intermission trailing by a goal, 1-0. The Badgers controlled possession in the opening 20 minutes of the game, outshooting the Friars 13-0.
-Both teams were scoreless in the second period. Providence defense rallied to keep the Badgers off the board with Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) tallying 18 saves. The Friars were able to generate some good looks offensively in the middle period, led by Hayley Lunny, who had a game-high five shots on goal for Providence.
-The Badgers increased their lead, 2-0, with a goal from Sophie Shirley early in the third period just 3:35 in.
- Providence was forced to kill three penalties in the final frame and the Badgers added an insurance goal on Sophie Shirley's second of the night into an empty net on the power play.
-Abstreiter finished the night with 41 saves, tallying 18 saves in the second period alone. It matched her season-high, which came against Northeastern in the Hockey East Championship game on March 6.
-It was Providence's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005.
-The Badgers improved to 7-1-1 all-time against Providence.
