Women’s Cross Country Improves In National Poll

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The USTFCCCA released its latest Regional and National Coaches' Poll on Tuesday, Oct. 19. The Providence College women's cross country team improved to 14th in the nation with a second place rank in the Northeast Region. The Friar men's cross country team is ranked second in the Northeast Region and received national votes in this weeks poll.
 
The Providence College men's and women's cross-country teams competed at the Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, Oct. 15 in Madison, Wis. against several nationally ranked teams. The Friar women finished eighth out of 36 teams (267 points). The men finished 19th out of 31 teams (462 points).
 
The women's side was led by graduate student Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.).  Coffin maintained a top-25 position throughout the duration of the race and finished strong with a 22nd-place finish in a time of 20:33. Fellow Friars Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) and Lily Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) held positions in the top-30 for the duration of the race. Mooney finished with a 25th-place finish (20:37), while Tuck finished right behind her in 27th-place (20:40). Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) and Kimberly May (Auckland, New Zealand) rounded out the top five finishing in 78th (21:10) and 116th (21:24), respectively.

For the men, the Friars were led by a 10th-place finish (23:36) by graduate student Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.). Sophomore Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) and graduate student AJ Ernst (Marblehead, Mass.) finished the Nuttycombe Invitational in 67th (24:11) and 83rd (24:20), respectively. Rounding out the Friars top five were graduate student Ryan Gallagher in 24:38 and sophomore Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) in 25:26.
 
The Friars will return to action when they travel to New Britain, Conn. on Oct. 22 for the CCSU Mini Meet.
