QUEENS, N.Y. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to BIG EAST foe St. John's, 64-58, on Jan. 17 in Queens, N.Y. The Friars dropped to 9-9 overall (0-6 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm improved to 11-7 (4-3). Five of the Friars' six losses in BIG EAST play have been decided by 10 points or less.

FIRST QUARTER:
• St. John's scored on back-to-back possessions to start the game, but the Friars answered with six-straight points heading into the media timeout at 4:55 (6-4).
• Providence held a 15-13 lead at the break as five different Friars cracked the scoring column.
Alyssa Geary (Elmhurst, Ill.) and Olivia Orlando (Georgetown, Mass.) each scored four points on 2-2 shooting from the field.

SECOND QUARTER:
• The two teams went to the locker room tied, 25-25, at halftime.

THIRD QUARTER:
• St. John's used a 7-0 run late in the third to take the largest lead of the game by either team (43-38) with 1:50 on the clock.
Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) halted the run with a pull-up jumper in the paint to make it a three-point game (43-40).
Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) hit 1-2 free throws with 7-seconds left to make it a four-point game (45-41).
• St. John's grabbed the defensive board off the miss and attempted a baseline three as time was expiring, but Andrea Cooper (Edmond, Okla.) blocked Qadashah Hoppie's shot to keep it a four-point game heading into the fourth quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER:
• Neither team scored a field goal in the fourth until Alisha Kebbe converted a right-handed lay-up with 5:48 on the clock. To that point, both teams had managed one point from the foul line.
• At 5:20, Kebbe struck again on a three-pointer to give the Red Storm a 51-42 advantage, forcing a Providence timeout.
• Coming out of the break, Earlette Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) converted a traditional three-point play, cutting the Johnnie's lead to six (51-45).
• Baskerville made it a four-point game (54-50) with 3:00 left to play, but the Red Storm answered with four-straight points to extend their lead to eight (00:53).
• The Friars kept chipping away, getting within 59-56 with 30-second remaining in the game.
• After St. John's called a timeout, Providence fouled Hoppie on the inbounds pass, sending her to the line, where she made both free-throw attempts (61-56).
• Freshman Hevynne Bristow (Brooklyn, N.Y.) converted off of an offensive rebound with 15-seconds left, but Hoppie went back to the line on St. John's next possession and sank both attempts (63-58).
