Daniela Alvarez Named BIG EAST Pitcher Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season on Monday, April 29 in the BIG EAST Weekly Awards. Alvarez previously won the award on March 11 and April 1 of this season.
Alvarez has had an impressive freshman season, posting a 17-6 overall record and 2.03 ERA. This weekend, she went 3-0 against the Butler Bulldogs, starting all three games. She pitched a complete game shutout in a game one of a double header on Saturday, April 27. The Friars won 8-0 in five innings due to the eight-run rule, she allowed only one hit and struck out seven batters. Her second shutout of the weekend came in the series finale on Sunday, April 28. Alvarez struck out seven batters and held a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Butler tallied its only hit of the game. Alvarez pitched 16 innings throughout the weekend, allowing just six hits and two walks. She struck out 19 batters and held opposing hitters to a .113 batting average.
The Friars will return to the field tomorrow, April 30 at 4:00 p.m. against the UMass Minutewomen in Amherst, Mass.
