The Friars look to improve on a 2-1 record in BIG EAST play.

SERIES BREAKDOWN - PROVIDENCE VS. DENVER... The Friars are 0-9 all-time against the Pioneers and are searching for the program's first win over Denver. Last season, Denver earned a 13-6 win in Friartown. Evan McGreen (Narragansett, R.I.) led the Friars' offense with three points on a goal and two assists. Nick Hatzipetrakos (Syosset, N.Y.) scored two goals and Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) made 10 saves.

ENDING NON-CONFERENCE PLAY AGAINST BROWN... Providence closed non-conference play against Brown (April 16). The Bears picked up a 9-7 win behind 17 saves from their goaltender, Phil Goss. Matt Grillo (Setauket, N.Y.) scored two goals and Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.) chipped in three points. Boyce made nine saves and Colin Keating (Ridgewood, N.J.) went 10-for-18 at the 'X.'

FRIARS WIN BIG AGAINST MARQUETTE... Providence took down Marquette (April 13) to improve to 2-1 in the league. The Friars jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back, winning by an eventual score of 15-8. Matt Grillo led the offense with five goals. Brendan Kearns  added three goals and two assists for five points. Colin Keating went 13-for-26 at the 'X' and Boyce made eight saves in Providence's first home victory of the season.

BIG EAST WEEKLY AWARDS... Grillo was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the first time in his career (April 15) after his five-goal performance against Marquette. Junior Nick Shaw (Canton, Mass.) earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll, as he helped the defensive unit hold Marquette to just eight goals. He picked up four ground balls and caused one turnover in the game, as well.

GRILLO GETS GOING... Freshman Matt Grillo has had an impressive rookie campaign, starting all 13 contests. He is third on the team in points (33) and second in goals (24). Four of his goals have been game winners, including the deciding goal against St. John's to open BIG EAST play. Grillo has scored at least one goal in 12 of the team's 13 games this season and has had eight multi-point performances.

HATZIPETRAKOS LEADS THE OFFENSE... After being held scoreless on opening day against BU, Nick Hatzipetrakos posted seven-straight games with three or more goals (Feb. 9-Mar. 19). He reached 100 career points with two goals and an assist in the Friars' game against Drexel (Mar. 24). The senior has a total of 35 goals and has had eight games with a hat trick or better this season. He's been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll twice this season (March 11, April 8).

Hatzipetrakos ranks third in the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.69) and eighth in points per game (3.15). He is second in the BIG EAST in shot percentage (.438).

LOCK DOWN DEFENSE... Providence ranks 13th nationally in scoring defense, allowing 9.62 goals per game. The Friars are second in the BIG EAST, behind Denver (9.18).

ONE GOAL GAMES... Five of Providence's 13 games this season have been decided by just one goal. The Friars are 2-3 in those contests.

BOYCE CONTINUES IMPRESSIVE CAREER... Boyce, a three-time All-BIG EAST First Team selection, was named to the Tewaaraton Watch List for the second-consecutive season on Feb. 28. More recently, he was named one of 10 finalists for the prestigous Senior CLASS Award (March 29). The goalkeeper has already had a storied career in Friartown, including being named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and a USILA/Nike Third-Team All-American in 2017. For his career, Boyce holds a 9.50 goals against average, a .545 save percentage and has accumulated 684 total saves.

So far this season, Boyce has a 9.74 goals against average and a .562 save percentage, which is 11th in the nation. He's the BIG EAST leader in save percentage and saves per game, averaging 12.23. He has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week three times (Feb. 25, Mar. 19, Apr. 1).

JENNINGS STRONG ON D... Sophomore Emmett Jennings (Fair Haven, N.J.) has been strong defensively for the Friars, starting all 13 games. He has 19 caused turnovers and 26 ground balls this season. He ranks sixth in the BIG EAST in caused turnovers per game, with 1.46.

CONTRIBUTIONS AT THE 'X'... RJ Romeo (Wilton, Conn.) and Colin Keating have shared the face-off duties for the Friars this season. Keating is 83-for-163, while Romeo is 58-for-119. Keating is third in the BIG EAST (.509) and Romeo is seventh (.487) in face-off win percentage. Keating has taken a vast majority of the draws over the last seven games.

KEARNS NEARS 100 GOALS... Last year, senior Brendan Kearns became the 22nd player in program history to reach the 100-point mark. He is currently nearing the 100-goal mark, as he has 91 goals and 56 assists for 147 total points. He is tied for eighth all-time in points, sixth in goals and 12th in assists.

Kearns is second on the team in points (39) and third in goals (24). He's been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll twice this season (Feb. 11 and March 4).

ROAD WARRIORS... The Friars' game at Denver is the team's final regular season road contest. So far this season, Providence is 5-2 on the road.

FRIARS FALL TO GEORGETOWN... The Hoyas claimed a 17-15 victory over Providence on April 6. Providence led 9-5 at halftime before Georgetown stormed back. Nick Hatzipetrakos posted a season-high eight points on five goals and three assists. Boyce made 15 saves in net, marking his fourth game of the season with 15+ stops. Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.), Kevin McCordic (Medfield, Mass.) and Brendan Kearns were the other Friars with three or more points.

OT WIN TO OPEN BIG EAST PLAY... The Friars moved to 1-0 in league play with an 8-7 overtime win at St. John's (March 30). Tim Hinrichs led the team offensively, scoring two goals and adding an assist. His assist came on Matt Grillo's game winner. Kevin McCordic and Luke O'Grady (Wayne, Pa.) scored man-up goals to help the Friars go 2-for-3 with the man advantage. Boyce made 17 saves in net for the Friars.

FRIARS PICKED TO FINISH FIFTH IN BIG EAST POLL... Providence was picked to finish fifth in the 2019 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll with a total of 10 points. Denver was picked to win the league, having collected four first-place votes and 25 points overall. Marquette (18 points) was picked to finish second and Georgetown (17 points), who received one first place vote, was picked third.

SCOUTING DENVER... #12/13 Denver is 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the BIG EAST. The Pioneers have defeated Georgetown (16-9) and St. John's (15-12) in league play, but fell to Villanova (12-11). It was the program's first regular-season conference loss. Denver ranks seventh nationally in scoring defense (9.18 goals against per game) and 22nd in scoring offense (12.00 goals per game). The Pioneers lead the BIG EAST in scoring defense, caused turnovers per game (9.18), face-off winning percentage (.590) and ground balls per game (33.82).

PLAYERS TO WATCH...  Junior Ethan Walker leads the Pioneers in points (39) and goals (29). He ranks third in the BIG EAST in points per game (3.55) and fourth in goals per game (2.64). Sophomore Jack Hannah has a team-leading 14 assists and 23 total points. Freshman Ellis Geis ranks second on the team in both goals (17) and points (25).

Brett Boos has taken all but seven face-offs this season. He holds a .598 winning percentage (first in the BIG EAST) on 266 attempts. Senior Alex Ready has started all 11 games in net. He holds a 9.19 goals against average, which is ninth nationally, and a .480 save percentage.

WHAT'S NEXT... The Friars return home for the final game of the 2019 season. Providence hosts Villanova for Senior Day on Saturday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
