PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will continue its Spring break trip matching up against Colgate University on Wednesday, March 13 in Clearwater, Fla.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
The Friars improved to 9-7 overall this past weekend after going 5-1 in the USF-Clearwater Parks and Recreation Showcase in Clearwater, Fla. The team defeated Furman, Central Michigan, Army, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Saint Joseph's while dropping its lone game against South Dakota State.
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) leads Providence at the top of the lineup, leading the team with a .340 batting average and team-high 17 hits in 50 at-bats. She is tied for first on the team in RBI with six.
Jackie Martin (Bridgeton, N.J.),
Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) and
Molly McGarry are the other Friars hitting above .300.
Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) has been the work horse in the circle for Providence, posting a 6-2 record to open the season with a 1.35 ERA. Alvarez has a team-best five complete games and 38 strikeouts in 51.2 innings pitched. She is coming off her best weekend of the season, earning BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after going 3-0 in the USF-Series. She posted a 0.32 ERA and had 21 strikeouts.
Julia Murphy (Pittsfield, Mass.) has been her compliment, posting a 1.80 ERA in five appearances.
SCOUTING COLGATE:
Colgate started its Spring break trip falling to South Dakota State, Eastern Illinois and USC Upstate while defeating Toledo in a 1-0 game. The Raiders fell to 7-8 overall after their three losses over the weekend.
Jordan Miller leads the team at the plate, tallying 21 hits in 47 at-bats to post a team-high .447 batting average. Meghan Romero, Rebecca Johnson and Cayman Coughlin are the other Raiders with a plus .300 average. Miller also leads the team in home runs (three) and RBI (14).
Jessica Hay and Bella Crow handle the work in the circle, combining to start 10 of the team's 15 games. Hay holds a 3.03 ERA and 3-3 record compared to Crow's 4.28 ERA and 3-4 record.
ON DECK:
Providence will play in the USF-Michelle Smith Pediatric Cancer Spring Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. on March 15-17. The Friars will face Columbia, Towson, Colgate, Florida A&M and Lafayette.
