Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Monday, March 11 in the BIG EAST Weekly Awards while
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Alvarez was recognized on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after the first week of the season (February 11).
Alvarez went 3-0 over the weekend in the USF-Clearwater Parks and Recreation Showcase in Clearwater, Fla., picking up wins against Central Michigan, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Saint Joseph's. She pitched three complete games, giving up just one earned run in 22 innings of work. She finished with a 0.32 ERA over that span. Alvarez struck out 21 batters and held opponents to just a .200 batting average. Providence has benefited from Alvarez's success in the early going, as she leads the team in strikeouts (38), innings pitched (51.2), ERA (1.35), complete games (five) and wins (six).
Lee tallied six hits in 15 at-bats to accumulate a .400 batting average over the weekend. She added two RBI and three runs while starting four games for the Friars.
Providence returns to the field on Wednesday, March 13 with an 11:00 a.m. game against Colgate in Clearwater, Fla.
