PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team was selected eighth in the 2019 BIG EAST Softball Preseason Coaches' Poll on Thursday, Jan. 17. Providence finished seventh in the BIG EAST standings in 2018 after posting a 6-14 conference record and 13-32 overall record.
Head Coach
Jill Karwoski will be at the helm after spending the last five years as the head coach at Quinnipiac. Prior to Quinnipiac, Karwoski served as a volunteer assistant coach at Providence from 2012-2013. Providence recently hired pitching coach,
Bill Hillhouse, to build on last season's success posting the third best ERA (3.80) in the BIG EAST. Along with the addition of Hillhouse, assistant coach
Bree Nasti will be joining the staff in 2019. Nasti joins Providence after spending the last six seasons as the head coach of Adelphi University.
The Friars will have to deal with the loss of
Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.) this season, a 2018 BIG EAST Second Team member, who led the team in hitting last season posting a .333 batting average.
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) will look to lead Providence in 2019. Last season she hit .366 in BIG EAST play including 26 hits and 14 runs.
