Softball Set To Host Weekend Series Against Villanova

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team is set to host BIG EAST foe, the Villanova Wildcats on April 13-14. The Friars will play a single game on Friday, April 13 at 3:30 p.m. before playing a doubleheader against the Wildcats on Saturday, April 14 with games at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.

The Providence College softball team has a 9-21 record on the season. The team has a 4-4 BIG EAST record and sits in fourth place in the conference standings.

Senior Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.) has been on a hot streak at the plate for the Friars. In the last 10 games, Rurka is batting an impressive .516 with 16 hits, five doubles, five RBI and a .774 slugging percentage. In BIG EAST play, Rurka ranks fifth in batting average (.464), second in hits (13), and first in doubles (five).

Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.), Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) and Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) have all played key roles in the Friar offense. Portillo is currently batting .299 with 26 hits. Lee leads the team in hits with 29 and is batting .290. Veler has acted as the power bat for Providence as she leads the team in homeruns (five) and RBI (20).

Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) and Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) have split starting duties on the mound for Providence. Ramirez has a record of 5-8 on the season with an ERA of 3.41 and 32 strikeouts. Trinidad is 3-8 on the season with a team leading ERA of 3.16.

SCOUTING VILLANOVA:
The Villanova Wildcats have a record of 15-16-1 on the season. In BIG EAST play, the Wildcats are 1-5.

Nikki Alden has been a strong performer for the Wildcats in BIG EAST play. Against conference opponents, Alden is batting .467 with seven hits and seven RBI.

Brittany Husk has a batting average of .407 with 46 hits and 23 RBI on the overall season.

Anissa Amarillas has been the ace of the Villanova pitching staff. She has a 9-9 record with a 4.07 ERA and 48 batters struck out on the season.

ON DECK:
Providence will play a non-conference game against Brown on Tuesday, April 17 at Glay Field.
