Softball's Ramirez Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The BIG EAST announced its weekly awards and honor roll for softball on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The BIG EAST announced Providence College senior Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) as the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for her performance at the UNF Osprey Tournament. Sophomore Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Pa.) was also named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

Ramirez recorded two stellar performances at the UNF Osprey Tournament, going 1-1 over the course of the weekend. In 14.2 innings of work, Ramirez recorded a 0.00 ERA and struck out seven batters. Her one loss came in an extra innings pitcher's duel against the University of North Florida when the Osprey scored an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Compton was named to the honor roll after recording a .286 batting average with one run scored and four hits over five games.

The Friars will travel to California for two tournaments over the college's spring break. They will play in the Louisville Slugger Tournament, hosted by Pacific University, on March 2-4 and in the LMU Tournament on March 8-10. In between the two tournaments, the team will play a doubleheader against Northridge on March 6.
