Softball Announces One-Day Clinics On MLK Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team announced it will hold two one-day clinics on Martin Luther King weekend (Jan. 20 and Jan. 21). The all-skills softball clinic on Sunday, Jan. 20 will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The day clinic on Jan. 21 will consist of two portions, the first being the kids "Fun with Fundies" one-hour portion from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. followed by an advanced hitting and pitching clinic from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The all-skills clinic on Jan. 20 will have Providence College Head Coach Jill Karwoski and her staff offer girls in seventh to twelfth grade instruction at their position of choice divided into infield, outfield, pitching and catching. Proper throwing technique will be covered for all participants prior to specific position play. Following defensive instruction the participants will receive offensive instruction, drill work and front toss. This clinic will be held in the Peterson Rec Center on the Providence College Campus.
The first portion of the Jan. 21 clinic, "Fun with Fundies," is open to girls in third to sixth grade and will offer an informative but also fun clinic. Participants will be introduced to proper throwing technique along with defensive fundamental instruction on receiving a thrown ball, fielding a ground ball and catching a fly ball. The latter portion of the Jan. 21 clinic will be open to girls in seventh through twelfth grade. This clinic will go more in-depth on strategy and game-like situations. Hitters will learn and work on concepts such as rhythm, timing and sequence while the pitchers will learn how to approach certain batters.
