PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team announced its 2019 schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 7. The Friars will play 56 games during the 2019 season, including five tournaments, 21 BIG EAST Conference games and 14 home games.
Providence will begin its season at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fla. from Feb. 7-10. The Friars will take on Jacksonville once and UMass-Lowell and Georgia Tech, twice.
The Friars will then travel to Orlando, Fla. to play in the D9 Citrus Blossom Tournament from Feb. 15-17. Providence will play five games at the D9 Citrus Blossom Tournament, including St. Joe's, Bethune Cookman, Stetson, Kansas and UMass. Bethune Cookman reached the NCAA Tournament last season after finishing 31-26. They played in the Gainesville Regional before being eliminated with losses against No. 2 Florida and USF.
Providence will then play in their third tournament in Baltimore, Md. on the campus of Morgan State from March 2-3. The Friars will play two games against Central Connecticut State and one game against Morgan State and Fairleigh Dickinson.
Before spring break, Providence will take part in the first of two USF series tournaments they will play in. The tournament is scheduled from Mar. 8-10 in Clearwater, Fla. The Friars will take on Furman, Central Michigan, Army, St. Francis (Pa.), South Dakota State and St. Joe's for the second time this season. St. Francis reached the NCAA Tournament last season after completing a 39-19 season and winning the Northeast Conference Championship. St. Francis played in the Tucson regional and dropped back-to-back games to No. 14 Arizona and Mississippi State.
In between their USF series tournaments, the Friars will play a lone game against Colgate University on Mar. 13 in Clearwater, Fl.
The second USF series tournament for Providence will take place from Mar. 15-17 in Clearwater, Fla. The Friars will face Columbia, Towson, Colgate, FAMU and Lafayette.
The Friars will play Sacred Heart, Boston College, Bryant, Rhode Island, Brown, Central Connecticut State, Harvard, Fordham and UMass as their non-conference games following the completion of the Florida tournaments.
This season, Providence welcomes BIG EAST runner-up Creighton (March 20-31), Seton Hall (April 18-20) and Butler (April 27-28) for its home BIG EAST opponents.
The Friars will travel to St. John's (March 23-24), Villanova (April 6-7), 2018 BIG EAST Champion DePaul (April 13-14) and Georgetown to wrap up the season (May 4-5) for their away BIG EAST games.
The BIG EAST Championships will be held from May 10-11.
