PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College Softball is set to play a weekend series against the DePaul University Blue Demons on April 14-15. The Friars will play at 1:00 p.m. ET and 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday, April 14. Providence will then finish the series with a game on Saturday, April 15 at 1:00 p.m. ET.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE: The Friars are currently 12-19 with a 3-6 record in the BIG EAST this season. Providence last played a weekend series against the Butler University Bulldogs on April 8-9. Providence won two out of the three games in the weekend.
Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) have been the leaders of the Providence offense this season. Both Lundstrom leads the Friars in batting average (.381), runs (29) while also totaling 21 RBI and 5 homeruns. Lee leads Providence in hits (41) and has a batting average of .353.
Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.) has been on a hot streak for the Friars. Portillo has been named to the last two BIG EAST Weekly Honor Rolls. Over the last two weeks, Portillo has a batting average of .462 with 12 hits, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs and 13 RBI.
Also playing key roles for Providence are Brittany Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Paige Mulry (Warrenville, Ill.). Veler is currently batting .326 with 31 hits, 7 doubles, 3 triples, 1 homerun and 23 RBI. Mulry is batting .270 with 3 doubles, 2 triples, 3 homeruns and 20 RBI. Mulry hit a walk-off homerun in a 14-6 win over Butler on April 8.
In total, Providence has four Friars with at least 20 RBI (Lundstrom (21), Portillo (23), Veler (23) and Mulry (20)).
Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) has been the ace of the pitching staff this season. Ramirez has started 20 games this season and has a record of 8-10 and an ERA of 4.58. Ramirez has pitched 15 complete games this season and has totaled 69 strike outs while holding opponents to a .283 batting average.
SCOUTING BUTLER UNIVERSITY: The Butler University Bulldogs have a 19-16 record on the season with a 4-4 record in the BIG EAST.
Micah Fitzgerald and Megan Leyva have been the leaders of the Blue Demons' offense. Foreman is leading the team in batting average (.330) and hits (34). Dixon is batting .320 with 35 hits, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 5 homeruns and 21 RBI.
The DePaul's pitching staff has featured Kennedy Garcia and Missy Zoch. Garcia has started 14 games, totaling an 8-7 record with a 3.29 ERA. Zoch has similar numbers, starting 16 games with an 8-6 record and an ERA of 3.41.
