QUEENS, N.Y. - The Providence College Softball team lost the opening two games of its weekend series against the St. John's Red Storm on March 25. The Friars lost the first game 8-3, before dropping the second game, 15-7.
Providence began the scoring in the top of the 2nd inning. With two outs in the inning, Nadia Kemp (Wappinger's Falls, N.Y.) doubled to right field. Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) then drove in Kemp with a single down the right field line.
St. John's, however, responded by scoring a run in the bottom of the 2nd, and 5 in the bottom of the 3rd to put the Red Storm up 6-1. St. John's added another two in the bottom of the 5th to build the lead to 8-1.
Providence attempted to rally in the top of the 7th inning. Kemp singled with one out in the inning. McCune followed this up with a double. After Annie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.) entered the game to pinch run for McCune, Allison Abbatiello (North Salem, N.Y.) drew a walk to load the bases for Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.). Lee singled to left field to drive in Kemp and bring the score to 8-2. Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) drove in Flego by singling up the middle. The Friars would be unable to score again and lost the game 8-3.

Kemp led the team by going 3-3 in the first game.
Providence again scored first in the second game. Abbatiello began the top of the 3rd inning by drawing a walk. Lee then hit a bunt single to put runners on second and third. Abbatiello advanced to third on a fly out by Lundstrom and Lee advanced to second after Paige Mulry (West Roxbury, Mass.) struck out. With two out and two on, Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.) singled to right field, driving in both Abbatiello and Lee, to put Providence up 2-0.
St. John's responded by scoring three runs in the bottom of the bottom of the 3rd and four runs in the bottom of the 4th to take a 7-2 lead.
Lundstrom began the top of the 5th inning by drawing a walk. Mulry then singled to left field to put two on. Rurka then loaded the bases by singling. Kemp drove in Lundstrom by drawing a walk. McCune then hit a sacrifice fly to score Mulry and bring the score to 7-4.
The Red Storm scored another four runs in the bottom of the 5th to make the score 11-4.
