Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Providence College softball team was defeated at Seton Hall, 10-4, on April 24 in South Orange, N.J. With the loss, the Friars moved to 16-26 (2-12 BIG EAST), while Seton Hall improved to 24-24 (7-7 BIG EAST).
The Friars jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a single from graduate student Kelsi Luttrell (Mission Viejo, Calif.).
The Pirates added four runs in the bottom of the first for a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the second, Seton Hall tallied two more runs for a 6-1 lead.
In the top of the third, junior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) hit a two-run double to put the Friars down by three runs, 6-3. However, in the bottom of the third, the Pirates scored two more runs to make the game, 8-3. Seton Hall added another run in the bottom of the fourth for a 9-3 lead and scored another run in the bottom of the fifth for a 10-3 lead.
In the top of the sixth, sophomore Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) hit a home run to left center for the final score, 10-4.
Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) started on the mound and allowed four hits. Freshman Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) pitched the next 2.2 innings, struck out three batters, and allowed two hits. Sophomore Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) pitched the final 3.1 innings, struck out five batters, and allowed four hits.
The Friars will return to action with a game at UConn at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26 in Storrs, Conn.
