PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by DePaul, 9-1, in five innings on Sunday, April 10 in Providence, R.I. With the loss, the Friars moved to 13-20 (1-7 BIG EAST), while DePaul 16-20 (7-0 BIG EAST).

In the top of the first, DePaul's Morgan Maize hit a three-run home run and added another run to make the game, 4-0. In the third inning, DePaul tallied another three runs for a 9-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Friars tallied a run on a single to third base from sophomore Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) for the final score, 9-1.

Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) started on the mound and pitched 1.1 innings. Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) pitched the final 3.2 innings tallying three strike outs, while allowing five hits.

The Friars will return to action with a game at Bryant at 4:00 p.m. on April 13 in Smithfield, R.I.
