Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

BRONX, N.Y. - The Providence College softball team was defeated in a double header versus Fordham in the Fordham Tournament in Bronx, N.Y. today (March 11). In game one, the Friars recorded a 5-0 loss and in game two they were defeated again, 8-3.
In game one, Providence held off Fordham until the fourth inning when the Rams tallied five runs for the final score, 5-0. Junior Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) pitched six innings, allowed eight hits and struck out two batters. Sophomore Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) registered the lone hit for Providence.
In game two, Fordham jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and added another two runs in the second for a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Veler hit a double to score the Friars' first run of the game. Junior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) hit a two-run single to cut Fordham's lead to 4-3.
Fordham retaliated with another three runs in the bottom of the third and another run in the bottom of the sixth for the final score, 8-3.
Sophomore Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) started on the mound and pitched the first two innings. She allowed five hits and struck out one batter. Freshman Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) pitched the next four innings, allowing five hits and striking out one batter.
The Friars will continue play in the Fordham Tournament with a game versus Saint Peter's at 12:00 p.m. in Bronx, N.Y.
