Softball Set To Play In Fordham Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team is set to play in the Fordham Tournament on Friday, March 11 and Saturday March 12 in Bronx, N.Y. On Friday, March 11, the Friars will play a double header against Fordham at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The following day, Saturday, March 12, Providence will play Saint Peter's at 12:00 p.m.
The Friars are 9-8 on the season after posting a 4-3 record last week. On March 1, Providence split a double header at Stetson, with a 3-2 loss in its first game and a 6-2 win in its second game.
Junior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) leads the Friars with 13 RBI on the season. Of her 13 RBI, 10 came in last week's performance. Freshman Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) leads Providence with a .435 batting average and has had 20 hits and six RBI. Senior Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) leads the Friars with 21 hits and has recorded nine RBI. Last week on the mound, freshman Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) recorded a 0.57 ERA after pitching 12.1 innings and striking out 12 batters.

SCOUTING FORDHAM: The Rams are 7-13 on the season, coming off of the Black and Orange Challenge last week. In the tournament, Fordham posted a 1-4 record with its sole win over Iowa State, 5-2.
Sydney Canessa leads the Rams, batting .357, recording 20 hits, 15 RBI, and holding a .696 slugging percentage. Following Canessa is Rachel Gillen who holds a .286 batting average and has had 16 hits, seven RBI, and four runs. Rachel Gillen and Lauren Quense have split time on the mound, Gillen has made 17 appearances with 12 starts. She holds a 5.52 ERA, with one shutout under her belt. Quense has appeared in 12 games, starting eight, while holding a 5.44 ERA.
SCOUTING SAINT PETER'S: The Peacocks are 0-10 on the season, coming off of the ShareSLO Mustang Classic last week in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Saint Peter's fell to Cal Poly in a double header, 1-0 and 9-1, on March 3. The Peacocks fell to Weber State, 3-0, and Toledo, 5-0, the following day on March 4.
Schieler Collins leads Saint Peter's with a .273 batting average with three hits. Tiffani Lambert leads the Peacocks in pitching with a 3.11 ERA, appearing in six games, with two starts, and one strike out.
