DeLAND, Fla. - The Providence College softball team posted a 1-1 record on Friday, Feb. 26 in the Stetson Invitational in DeLand, Fla. With the loss against Southern Illinois (10-0) and the win over Stetson (7-2), the Friars moved to 4-3 on the season.
Southern Illinois' Shaye Harre hit a two-run double that brought in Gonzales and Brandenburg. Jessi Heese grounded out and knocked in Sydne Jones to make the game, 3-0 at the bottom of the first. After the first inning, the Salukis added four runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth.
The Friars had two hits throughout the game. The first came in the top of the third when senior
Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) laid down a bunt up the third base line. Junior
Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) had the Friars' second hit, singling up the middle.

Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) pitched all four innings, registering two strike outs while allowing nine hits.
Southern Illinois' Brian Jones picked up the win for the Salukis, pitching five innings, recording four strike outs and allowing only two hits.
Providence was quick to score in their game versus Stetson. In the bottom of the first, Lundstrom flied out to centerfield to knock Baldassari in. Stetson took the lead in the second putting the Hatters up, 2-1.
In the fourth inning the Friars scored two more runs, off of a single from graduate student
Kelsi Luttrell (Mission Viejo, Calif.) that brought in two runs for a Friar-lead, 3-2. In the bottom of the sixth, Providence scored four more runs and secured the lead, 7-2.
Sophomore
Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) recorded the win, pitching a complete game, for her second win on the season. Ramirez registered four strike outs and allowed five hits. Stetson's Chelsea Hostetler pitched six innings, allowing 12 hits.
The Friars will continue play in the Stetson Invitational tomorrow, Feb. 27, with games versus Pittsburgh (10:00 a.m.) and Colgate (2:30 p.m.).
