Providence Softball Releases 2017 Schedule

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -  The Providence College Softball team announced its 2017 schedule on Friday, Dec. 9. The Friars will play 53 games during the 2017 season, including three tournaments, 21 BIG EAST Conference games and 19 home games.

Providence will begin its season at the D9 Orange Blossom Tournament in Orlando, Fla. on Feb. 17-19. At the Orange Blossom tournament, the Friars will take on George Washington, Stetson, LIU-Brooklyn, Marshall and Bethune Cookman. Last season, LIU- Brooklyn went 30-27 and qualified for the Baton Rouge Regional.

The Friars will then play in two different tournaments during their annual Spring Break trip. Providence will first take part in the UCF Tournament in Orlando, Fla. on March. 3-5. Providence will take on the University of Central Florida, Florida Gulf Coast University and Stetson.  UCF qualified for the Gainesville Regional last year after finishing 38-22 on the season.

The Friars will wrap up their tournament play at the USF Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. on March 10-12. At this final tournament, the Friars will face Monmouth, Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville, Indiana State, IPFW, and Western Michigan.

The Friars will play Holy Cross, URI, UConn, Fairfield, Brown, Boston University, Harvard, Bryant, CCSU, and Boston College as their non-conference games following the completion of the Florida tournaments

This season, Providence welcomes 2016 BIG EAST Champion Butler (April 8-9), Seton Hall (April 22-23) and Creighton (April 29-30) for home BIG EAST games.

The Friars will travel to 2016 BIG EAST Runner-Up St. John’s (March 25-26), Georgetown (April 1-2), DePaul (April 14-15) and Villanova (May 6-7) for their away BIG EAST games this season.

Providence will host their first home game of the season on March 18 with a doubleheader against Holy Cross.

The BIG EAST Championships will be held at DePaul University in Rosemont, Ill. on May 12-13.
