Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College softball team will host Creighton in a BIG EAST Conference three-game series this weekend (Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 3rd). The series will be the last Providence's regular season games. Saturday's doubleheader will be played at noon and 2:00 p.m., while Sunday's single game will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the Friars will honor their five graduating seniors as part of Senior Day. Saturday will serve as Providence's alumni games.
Providence (14-22, 6-10 BIG EAST) is led by senior Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) who has a team-high 36 hits, 11 home runs and 32 RBI. Sophomore Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) is also hitting in the .300's with a .333 batting average with 33 hits, 10 home runs and 20 RBI.
Sophomore Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) leads the pitching staff with a 4.04 ERA and a 10-10 record in 128.1.0 innings pitched. She also has collected two shut outs, two saves and 54 strikeouts.
This week the Friars played two non-conference games, one against Bryant at home and one at Boston College. The Friars defeated Bryant, 9-6, in their PINK OUT game on Tuesday, April 28 and then fell to Boston College, 7-1, on Wednesday, April 29. Of note, Dederick hit her 11th homerun of the season (24th in her career) in the game against Bryant, moving her to third on the Providence College's all-time career homeruns list.
Creighton is 21-19 on the season with a 6-10 BIG EAST Conference record. Last time out, the Bluejays played a doubleheader against Drake on April 29. Creighton fell in both games, 1-0 and 5-1.
The Bluejays are led by Liz Dike who has a .411 batting average and team-bests in runs (33), hits (51), home runs (11) and RBI (38). Sydnee Eck leads the Creighton pitching staff with 117.1 innings pitched with 10 wins and a 3.16 ERA. Micaela Whitney has posted a 3.56 ERA in 126.0 innings pitched.
