Softball Travels To St. John's

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

The Providence College softball team will travel to St. John's in Jamaica, N.Y. this weekend to play a three-game BIG EAST series. The first two games will be played on April 11 at noon and 2:00p.m., while the final game of the series will be played on April 12 at 12:00 p.m. and will be televised on the BIG EAST Digital Network and the Fox Sports Go App.

Providence is led by junior Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) who has a team-best .392 batting average and 29 hits. Senior Shanelle Harrell (Irvine, Calif.) and sophomore Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) are two other Friars to keep an eye on. Harrell currently ranks second on the team in batting average (.338), while Lundstrom is tied for first with senior Krisite Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) in homeruns (7), including a homerun in four of her last five games. Lundstrom also was named BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week (April 6) and College Sports Madness BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week (April 7).

On the mound, sophomore Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) leads the Friars in pitching staff with a 4.04 ERA and six wins in 15 appearances. Huntly also has pitched 78.0 innings and accumulated 31 strikeouts.

The Friars have an 8-15 (3-4 BIG EAST) record this season. Last time out, Providence played a two-game home series against Seton Hall. Dederick propelled the Friars to a 2-1 victory in the first game after she hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning. In the second game, Providence fell 7-4.

St. John's is 14-13 (6-0) BIG EAST on the season. Erin Burner leads the Red Storm with a .476 batting average and team-best 39 hits and 30 RBI. Pitching for St. John's, Tori Free has started 11 of the 14 games she has appeared in, recording a 2.03 ERA and 79 strikeouts.

Following the games at St. John's, Providence will play a single game at Brown at 4:00 p.m. on April 15.
