In the first game of the day, against Michigan State, the Friars scored first, in the top of the opening inning. Senior Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) started the offense off with a single and scored when sophomore Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) hit a home run to right-center field, giving the Friars a 2-0 lead.
Michigan State (6-2) then stepped up to bat responding to the Friars with McKenzie Long scoring by a bases loaded walk. At the end of the first inning the Friars held a 2-1 advantage.
Senior Shanelle Harrell (Irvine, Calif) was first up in the second inning for Providence and registered a triple. The third baseman scored after freshman Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) hit a single to the Spartan pitcher.
Michigan State again responded in the bottom of the inning with Jacquie Reiser scoring on a sacrifice fly by Lea Foerster, to pull MSU to within one of the Friars, 3-2.
The Spartans tied the score in the third when Reiser singled up the middle to score Shanin Thomas.
Michigan State added two runs in the fifth and sixth on two and three hits, respectively to win the contest, 7-3.
Junior Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass.) pitched 5.1 innings recording one strikeout, while freshman Taryn Braz (Simsbury, Conn.) pitched 0.1 inning with one strikeout.
Kristina Zalweski picked up with win for MSU entering in the second inning, allowing four hits while striking out seven and giving up no runs.
In the second game, FAU (8-1) scored first in the top of the first when Christina Martinez singled in Lindsey Shell.
The Owls added one run in the second off a solo shot my Laura Mann and three more runs on three hits in the third to take a 5-0 lead.
FAU added three runs in the fourth (8-0) on a solo home run by Tatum Buckley and a two RBI single by Carnesha Thompson.
PC (0-4) got on the board in the fourth when senior Sarah Kitterman (Houston, Texas)) singled in Harrell. Senior Kelsi Luttrell (Mission Viejo, Calif.) scored on an error to make it 8-2.
FAU added two more runs in the sixth to bring the game to its eventual final of 10-2.
Freshman Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) and Braz spilt time pitching with 3.1 innings and 2.2 innings pitched, respectively.
To conclude the Tournament, the Friars will take on Tulsa tomorrow (Feb. 15) at 11:15 a.m.
