Field Hockey Hosts Dartmouth In PINKOUT FRIARTOWN Game

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team will host Dartmouth College in non-conference action on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1:00 p.m. The match will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and it will serve as the program's PINK OUT FRIARTOWN game.

The team joins eight other programs in the athletic department who will host similar events during select games to promote awareness and raise funds for the fight against breast cancer. Donations will be accepted at the game, and PINK OUT FRIARTOWN dri-fit shirts will be sold for $20. This year's edition of the shirts are silver, long-sleeve with the PINK OUT FRIARTOWN logo. Thanks to our partnership with United Healthcare, the entire purchase price (in addition to any donations collected) will benefit the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
Providence College holds a 2-9 overall record heading into Saturday's match against Dartmouth. The Friars recently opened BIG EAST Conference play against Georgetown on Oct. 2 and earned a 4-1 victory to start the conference slate with a 1-0 mark.

In the victory over Georgetown, sophomore Megan Hamilton (Warrington, Pa.) tallied a season-best two goals to lead the Friar offense. Senior Emily Matthews (Marshfield, Mass.) and freshman Corinne Kenney (Warrington, Pa.) scored one goal each for Providence.

Matthews leads the Friars in scoring through 11 games with nine points on three goals and three assists. Junior Adrienne Houle (Burlington, Ontario) and freshman Emma Lucas (Naarden, Netherlands) are tied for second on the team with seven points apiece. Houle and Lucas have each recorded three goals and one assist. Sophomores Hamilton and Abby Thornton (West Pittston, Pa.) check in with six points. Hamilton owns three goals, while Thornton has registered two goals and two assists. In all, 12 Friars have cracked the scoring column this season with at least one point.

Graduate student Deidra Clymer (South Windsor, Conn.) has played 453:05 minutes in the cage this season and owns a 1-5 overall record (1-0 BIG EAST) with a 2.32 goals against average and a 0.625 save percentage. Sophomore Megan Guilbert (Morganville, N.J.) has logged 317 minutes in goal and a 1-4 record. She has posted a 2.43 goals against average and a 0.738 save percentage.

Through 11 games, Providence has out-shot its opponents, 145-129, and holds a 75-47 edge in penalty corners. However, the Friars' opponents have recorded a 26-18 advantage in goal scoring.


SCOUTING DARTMOUTH:
Dartmouth arrives in the Ocean State with a 3-4 overall record and will face Brown University in Ivy League play on Saturday, Oct. 3 before facing off against Providence College on Sunday.

Three players have cracked double-digits in the scoring column for Dartmouth, led by Julia Donald's 13 points on six goals and one assist. Rebecca Hu is second on the team in scoring with 11 points (4 g / 3 a), while Brooke Van Valkenburg has 10 points on four goals and two assists. Six other members of the team have scored at least one goal through its first seven games.

Page Duffy has been the goalkeeper of record for Dartmouth in all seven contests to start the season and has logged 445 minutes in the cage. She owns a 3.30 goals against average and a 0.672 save percentage.

The Big Green has scored victories over New Hampshire (4-2), Sacred Heart (8-1) and Bryant (3-2), and have suffered losses at the hands of UMass Lowell (3-2, OT), Northeastern (2-1), UMass (6-1) and most recently 20th-ranked Princeton (7-3) on Sept. 27. The Big Green were within a goal of Princeton in the second half of play, but a three-goal outburst by the Tigers put the game out of reach.

Dartmouth has out-shot its opponents, 122-114, and hold a 63-46 edge in penalty corners. Thirty-eight of the Big Green's corners have come during the second half of play.
