Softball To Play Against Villanova On Thursday And Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team (4-22, 2-9) will host BIG EAST opponent Villanova (14-23, 2-7) on Thursday, April 17 in a double header and Saturday, April 19 for a single game. The first pitch is set for noon on Thursday and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Sophomore Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) leads Providence with 26 hits on the year. Junior Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) follows with 21 hits. Freshman McKall Miller (Ashburn, Va.) leads the team with 12 RBI and five home runs. Junior Sarah Kitterman (Houston, Texas) has hit three home runs. Sophomore Danielle Deraney (Shrewsbury, Mass.) leads the team in batting average at .381.

Freshman Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) has made 18 pitching appearances for 96.2 innings and a 4.38 ERA. She has fanned 47 batters on the year. Sophomore Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass.) has recorded 41 strikeouts in 58.0 innings pitched.

The Wildcats are led by Lauren Herschberg, who has 28 hits on the season. Sierra McConnell has a team leading 13 RBI. Kate Poppe leads the Villanova pitching staff with a 1.96 ERA in 29 appearances. She has seen action in 153.2 innings.

Each team played Butler with Villanova taking 2-of-3 and Providence winning 1-of-3.

After the weekend the Friars remain home to face cross-town rival Brown on Wednesday, April 23. The first pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
