Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

The Providence College softball team announced its 2015 schedule on Friday, Oct. 24. The Friars will play in four tournaments in a 54-game schedule that includes 21 conference games.
Providence will open the 2015 season at the Florida Atlantic “Strike-Out Cancer” Tournament, running Feb. 13-15. The Friars will face Drexel, Maryland, Michigan State, Florida Atlantic and Tulsa in the stretch. Tulsa won the Conference USA Championship and advanced to the NCAA Waco Regional in 2014, making it to the regional championship while going a combined 53-9 on the season.
Next, the Friars travel to Towson, Md. for the Towson Tiger Classic on Feb. 27-March 1. Providence will play Towson, Fairfield and Columbia.
After the Towson Tiger Classic, the Friars will travel to Los Angeles, Calif. on March 6-8 for the UCLA Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament. Providence will play Illinois, UC Davis and UCLA in the event. UCLA made it to the Los Angeles Super Regionals last season en route to a 52-8 overall record. Following the tournament, the Friars will stay in Los Angeles to play Loyola Marymount in a doubleheader on March 10.
Providence will remain on the west coast for the Fresno State Tournament, the team’s last tournament. The Friars will compete against South Dakota, Fresno State, Montana, Pacific and Cal Poly.
Following the tournaments, other than BIG EAST opponents, Providence will play Yale, Boston University, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Brown, Maine, Fairfield, Bryant and Boston College. Bryant and Boston University both reached NCAA Regionals last season.
As for the BIG EAST home contests, Providence welcomes Seton Hall (March 21-22), Butler (April 2, 4) and Creighton (May 2-3).
The away BIG EAST slate boast match-ups at defending BIG EAST Champion DePaul (March 28-29), BIG EAST Championship runner-up St. John’s (April 11-12), Villanova (April 18-19) and Georgetown (April 25-26). DePaul advanced to the Lexington NCAA Regional Final last season, reaching the final elimination game.
The Friars will host 18 contests on the campus of Providence College at Raymond Field. The BIG EAST Championship will be held in Rosemont, Ill. on May 8-10.
