Final Stats
CLEARWATER, FLA. -
The Providence College softball team was defeated by Tennessee Tech, 11-4, in its final game of the USF Under Armour Classic in Clearwater, Fla. on Sun., March 10. Senior
Stephanie Kiesel (Ramona, Calif.) hit a homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring in two runs, but it was not enough for the Friars' to overcome the Golden Eagles seven runs in the top of the inning.
Kiesel finished with one homerun and two RBI. She brought in sophomore
Juliana Thibodeau (Cohoes, N.Y.), who pinch ran for sophomore
Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.). Thibodeau recorded one run and Dederick went 2-3 with a single in the second inning and a double in the sixth. Freshman
Kiarra Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) went 2-2 on four at bats with two singles, one sacrifice bunt and one walk. Baldassari currently leads the team in walks with seven walks.
Freshman
Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass.) pitched the first four innings, allowing three hits and recording six strikeouts. Providence was down by one run heading into the sixth inning when junior pitcher
Emily O'Keefe (Southington, Conn.) took over for Amos (2-1). O'Keefe gave up one run in the fifth and seven runs to start the sixth inning before she was relieved by sophomore
Shanelle Harrell (Irvine, Calif.), with the Friars down 10-2. Harrell finished the game and registered her first three strikeouts of the season while allowing one run. Amos was charged with the loss.
The Friars will play in their last series before starting their home schedule March 15-17 at the Stony Brook Invitational. Providence will play two games against Holy Cross and Manhattan and one game against host Stony Brook.
Providence will then host the Yale Bulldogs on Wed., March 20 in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. to open its home schedule.
