PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team gave 14th-ranked Boston University all it could handle, but fell to the Terriers, 1-0, in overtime on Friday, August 31 in Providence, R.I. It marks the second-straight game that Providence has taken a ranked opponent to overtime this season and falls to 0-2 on the year. Boston University improves its record to 3-0.
Neither team was able to capitalize on their offensive opportunities in front of the cage during 70 minutes of regulation, and the game went to overtime. The Terriers broke through with the game-winning goal just 3:16 into overtime to take the 1-0 victory. Madeleine Hackett was credited with the goal as she dribbled into the circle and fired a shot from the right into the lower left of the cage.
The Terriers held a 12-8 advantage in shots, but Providence recorded a 10-8 edge in penalty corners on the night.
Providence returns to action on Monday, September 3 against Kent State. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to begin at Noon.
