PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team (12-18, 4-1 BIG EAST) will the host the Harvard Crimson (15-8, 3-1 Ivy League) on Tuesday, April 3 at 4:00p.m. The Friars are coming off a 4-1 week in conference play, including a three-game sweep of Villanova on the road. It was their first three-game weekend conference sweep on the road since May of 2010, when the Friars took three games at Seton Hall.
Senior Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) picked up two wins for the Friars over the weekend, including a complete game shutout in the first game of the series. In the final game, Grosso allowed only three hits and no earned runs as she collected her seventh win and ninth complete game of the season.
Freshman Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) led the Friars in the batter's box with a 1.000 slugging percentage over the weekend. Dederick collected four hits, two of which were home runs including a go-ahead grand slam in the final game of the series. Freshman Shanelle Harrell (Irvine, Calif.) also collected four this over the weekend.
Harvard opened conference play over the weekend with four road games. The Crimson split a pair of games with Cornell on Friday, March 30 and swept Princeton in two games the following day. Last season, the Friars fell to Harvard, 4-3, as part of the Florida Atlantic Miken Classic Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla.
