TOWSON, Md. - The Providence College softball team defeated Fairfield, 8-0, in five innings Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Towson Series played in Towson, Md.

Providence took a 1-0 lead when junior Jessie Bryant (Marlborough, Mass.) led off the second inning with her second home run of the season. The Friars erupted for six runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 7-0. Providence had seven hits in the fourth inning, including a two-run single by senior Michelle Huber (Dana Point, Calif.).

Bryant had three hits, three runs and two RBIs to lead the way for PC. In the pitcher's circle, senior Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) earned her first win of the season as she pitched five shutout innings, allowed four hits and struck out two batters.

The Friars are back in action on Friday, March 9 when they face Western Kentucky and Minnesota at the FAU Embassy Suites Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.
