BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Providence College softball team was defeated in two games at the FAU Embassy Suites Classic Saturday afternoon in Boca Raton, Fla. The Friars fell to Bethune Cookman, 6-1, and to Boston College, 13-1.
In the first game, Bethune Cookman (5-12) took a 2-0 first inning lead on a two-run triple by Sabrina Ferguson. In the second inning, Providence (3-9) pulled to within 2-1 as freshman Juliana Thibodeau (Cohoes, N.Y.) singled to drive in sophomore Kaitlyn Duval(Shrewsbury, Mass.) who led off with a base hit. The Friars could not get any closer as the Wildcats scored three runs in the third inning and added one more in the seventh inning to seal the win. Thidodeau and Duval each had two hits.
In the second game, Boston College jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings. BC added eight runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth inning for a 13-0 lead. The Friars got on the board in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by junior Stephanie Kiesel (Ramona, Calif.). Kiesel finished with two hits.
The Friars are back in action on Sunday, March 11 when they face Bethune Cookman and Florida Atlantic in the final day of competition at the FAU Embassy Suites Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.
