PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team will open a three-game series against Rutgers on Saturday, April 16, with a doubleheader beginning at noon at Raymond Field. The two teams will complete the three-game set on Sunday, April 17, at noon.
Providence (17-23, 3-8 BIG EAST) enters the series winning four of its last seven games. The Friars swept Yale (12-10, 2-1) on April 6, and took two-of-three from St. John's (4-0, 6-8, 9-2) on April 9. Providence then dropped a doubleheader to Syracuse yesterday (9-10, 1-9).
Offensively, sophomore Jen Abrams (Reading, Mass.) leads the team with 44 hits, is second with seven homers and has registered a .336 batting average. Sophomore Jessie Bryant (Marlborough, Mass.) leads the team with nine home runs and 31 RBIs.
In the pitcher's circle for the Friars, junior Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) has recorded nine victories, a 3.66 ERA and has pitched over 120 innings. Sophomore Corinne Clauss (Davie, Fla.) has seven wins and has appeared in 25 games this season.
Scouting Rutgers (16-21, 4-5 BIG EAST): The Scarlet Knights have won their last six games, including three victories over Seton Hall last weekend, 10-5, 8-0, 4-1.
Brittney Lindley leads the team in batting average (.439), runs (34), hits (47), doubles (10), home runs (nine) and slugging percentage (.785). Mikelyn Messina also has registered a .365 batting average, scored 25 runs and tallied 28 RBIs.
Noelle Sisco leads the team with a 5.11 ERA and has earned a 4-11 record in 18 appearances.
