Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

Providence, R.I. - The Providence College softball team defeated the Hartford Hawks, 6-0, on Thursday, March 31. With the win, the Friars improve to 13-17 overall and 1-2 in the BIG EAST. Hartford falls to 3-15 overall and 0-3 in the America East.
Sophomore Jen Abrams (Reading, Mass.) led off the game with a double to right-center field. Three batters later, sophomore Jessie Bryant (Marlborough, Mass.) drove in Abrams with a single to right field to give the Friars a 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, Providence extended its lead to 3-0 after sophomore Stephanie Kiesel (Ramona, Calif.) walked in a run and freshman Corinne Rubright (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) registered an RBI single. The Friars added two more runs in next inning when freshman Morgan Culver (Seaford, Del.) doubled to left-center field to score Bryant and senior Justine Stratton (Fresno, Calif.).
In the fifth inning, the Friars added another insurance run with back-to-back doubles by junior Michelle Huber (Dana Point, Calif.) and Stratton. It gave Providence a 6-0 lead, the eventual final score.
Sophomore Corinne Clauss (Davie, Fla.) pitched a gem, giving up no runs and only two hits in seven innings. With the win, Clauss improves to 5-8 on the season with a 3.58 ERA.
The Friars are back in action this weekend when they travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on Notre Dame. On Saturday, April 2, they will take on the Fighting Irish in a doubleheader scheduled for noon.
