Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

Providence, R.I. - Providence College softball defeated Bryant, 5-4, on Wednesday, March 23, in its first home game of the season. With the win, the Friars improve to 8-15 on the season. The Bulldogs fall to 5-11.
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Aubrey Mable singled to bring in Lauren Guy. Mable later scored on a fielder's choice by Amy Weinburg.
The Friars scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Senior Justine Stratton (Fresno, Calif.) reached base with a two-out single to centerfield. Sophomore Jessie Bryant (Marlborough, Mass.) then notched her fifth long ball of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
In the third inning, Providence took the lead behind junior Jen Abrams' (Reading, Mass.) solo shot to centerfield. Junior Michelle Huber (Dana Point, Calif.) matched Abrams with her own homer to center field to give the Friars a 4-2 advantage. It is the first time this season that the Friars have registered back-to-back home runs.
The Bulldogs would come back to tie the game at 4-4 after scoring a run in the fifth and one in the sixth inning. Laura Bowen notched her third home run of the season with two outs in the top of the fifth. Regina Burdo singled to centerfield in the sixth inning to score Kendall Corder who had earlier drawn a walk.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Friars once again took the lead when sophomore Stephanie Kiesel (Ramona, Calif.) notched a double to left-center field. Freshman Mackenzie Morgan (Sulphur Springs, Texas) came around to score from second.
The Friars went on to win the game, 5-4, and junior Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) earned the victory after entering in relief of sophomore Corinne Clauss (Davie, Fla.). Grosso pitched two innings and gave up no earned runs on two hits. Clauss pitched four innings and gave up four earned runs on four hits.
Providence is back in action tomorrow when then take on the Brown Bears in a doubleheader at Raymond Field. The first game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
