Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

Greenville, S.C. - The Providence College softball team (5-12) dropped a doubleheader at Furman, 8-3, 4-2, on Wednesday, March 16 in Greenville, S.C.
In game one, Providence jumped out to an early, 1-0, lead in the top of the first inning when senior Justine Stratton (Fresno, Calif.) hit a sacrafice fly to center field that scored Jen Abrams (Reading, Mass.) who had reached on double to left center.
Furman answered with eight straight runs to take an 8-1 lead. In the seventh inning, the Friars scored two more runs when Stratton hit a triple to right center that scored junior Michelle Huber (Dana Point, Calif.) and Abrams. The late runs weren't enough as Furman went on to win the first game, 8-3.
Freshman Sarah Howard (Georgetown, Ky.) made her first-career appearance and pitched over two innings and gave up no earned runs. Sophomore Corinne Clauss (Davie, Fla.) fell to 2-6 on the season after allowing six earned runs in just over three innings pitched.
In the second game of the day, the Friars once again started out strong and took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Abrams led of the game with a single to right center field. Sophomore Jessie Bryant (Marlborough, Mass.) then belted her team-leading fourth home run of the season.
Furman scored four unanswered runs and went on to win the game by a score of 4-2. Junior Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) fell to 3-6 after pitching six innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits.
The Friars are back in action on Friday, March 18, when they open up their play in the Coastal Carolina Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. against Kansas at noon.
