Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Providence College softball team was defeated at Rutgers, 4-2, Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three-game weekend series played in Piscataway, N.J.
Rutgers (18-27, 4-9 BIG EAST) jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead when Brittney Lindley singled to drive in a run. Lindley then scored the second run as she stole home plate. Providence (18-24, 7-9 BIG EAST) evened the score (2-2) in the top of the third inning as junior Justine Stratton (Fresno, Calif.) doubled to drive in two runs. However, in the bottom of the inning, the Scarlet Knights took the lead for good when Mandy Craig hit a two-run home run. The Friars had a chance to cut the lead in the fifth inning as they loaded the bases with two outs, but could not convert.
Holly Johnson pitched a complete game for the Scarlet Knights, allowed just three hits and struck out 11 batters. PC sophomore Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) pitched four innings, allowed two earned runs and struck two batters. Freshman Corinne Clauss (Davie, Fla.) threw two scoreless innings and allowed two hits.
The Friars are back in action on Wednesday, April 28 when they play a non-conference doubleheader at Boston University.
