Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Harvard, 8-1, in 10 innings Tuesday afternoon at Raymond Field. Harvard scored one run in the seventh inning to tie the game and added seven runs in the 10th inning to seal the win.
Providence (12-19) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in third inning when Jen Abrams (Reading, Mass.) hit a single to drive in senior Katelyn Revens (Warwick, R.I.) who had walked. Harvard (15-16) scored an unearned run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 1-1. Ashley Heritage, who came in as a pinch runner, crossed the plate to even the game.
The Crimson then scored seven runs with two outs in the 10th inning to take an 8-1 lead. Melissa Schellberg hit a single to drive in the game-winning and Harvard added six more to complete the scoring. Ellen Macadam and Jennifer Francis each finished with three hits for the Crimson. Freshman Alaina Thomas (San Jose, Calif.) and junior Justine Stratton (Fresno, Calif.) each had two base hits for the Friars.
In the pitcher's circle, PC's Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) threw all 10 innings, allowed just one earned run and struck out three batters. Rachel Brown earned the win for Harvard as she pitched the last five innings, allowed just one hit and struck out seven batters.
The Friars are back in action on Wednesday, April 14 at 2:30 p.m. when they play a doubleheader at Brown University.
