Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

MIAMI, Fla. - - Playing in its opening game of the 2010 season, the Providence softball team was defeated by No. 20/25 UMass, 14-3, in five innings on Friday, February 12 at the FIU Combat Classic in Miami, Fla.
The Friars took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as senior Katelyn Revens (Warwick, R.I.) scored an unearned run. However, UMass scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good. UMass added two more runs in the second inning and six in the third inning to increase the lead to 10-1. Sarah Reeves hit a two-run home run to cap off the third inning.
Providence pulled to within 10-3 as it scored twice in the fourth inning. Junior Ava Pandiani (Shrewsbury, Mass.) hit a two-run double to right field to plate junior Justine Stratton (Fresno, Calif.) and freshman Jessie Bryant (Marlborough, Mass.). However, UMass added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to seal the win.
The Friars also were scheduled to play tournament host FIU however, the game was cancelled because of inclement weather.
