AMHERST, Mass. - The Providence College softball team was defeated at No. 22/17 UMass, 8-0, in six innings on Tuesday, April 14 in Amherst, Mass.

Brandice Balschmiter led UMass as she pitched six innings, allowed no hits and struck out six batters. The Minutewomen scored the only run they would need in the first inning as they took advantage of an error. Samantha Salato hit a three-run home run in the third inning to increase UMass' lead to 4-0. Salato finished with two home runs.

The Friars are back in action on Thursday, April 16 at 4:00 p.m. with a single game against the University of Rhode Island in Providence.
