DAVIS, Calif. - The Providence College softball team scored one in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and defeated UC Davis, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at La Rue Field in Davis, Calif.
The Aggies (8-6) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Lindsey Jones. However, the Friars (2-5) evened the score in the sixth inning as sophomore Christy Becker (Atlanta, Ga.) hit a double to left field to score sophomore Katelyn Revens (Warwick, R.I.) who led off the inning with a bunt single.
PC scored the winning run in the seventh when junior Jennifer Maccio (Huntington Station, Calif.) led off the inning with a double and then sophomore Julie Fowler (Langley, B.C.) pinch ran for Maccio. Fowler advanced to third on a base hit by Justine Stratton (Fresno, Calif.) and then came around to score on a double by junior Mary Rose Sheehy (Woodbridge, Conn.).
In the pitcher's circle, sophomore Danielle Bertolette (Temecula, Calif.) earned the win as she tossed a complete game and allowed one run on five hits and struck out three batters.
