Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

MIAMI, Fla. - The Providence College softball team opened the 2008 season on Friday, February 15 at the Schutt Sports Invitational in Miami, Fla. The Friars were defeated, 9-0, by No. 18 Ohio State and 10-3 by Illinois State.
In the first game, the Buckeyes (5-0) erupted for four runs in the second inning highlighted by Sam Marder's grand slam. Megan Miller earned the win for Ohio State as she pitched four-plus innings, allowed three hits and struck out two batters. The Friars were led by sophomores Katelyn Revens (Warwick, R.I.) and Jenna Garcia (Morro Bay, Calif.) as well as senior Samantha Pittman (San Diego, Calif.) who each had one hit.
In the second game, the Red Birds (3-3) scored two runs in the third inning and added four more in the fifth en route ton a 10-3 victory. Kara Nelson, Tiffa Prager and Andrea Shifflet each had three hits to lead the Red Birds who finished with 14 hits. Revens had two more hits for the Friars, while sophomore Christy Becker (Atlanta, Ga.) had one hit and two RBIs.
The Friars (0-2) are back in action on Saturday, February 16 when they face No. 21 Georgia and Florida International.
