Field Hockey Opens BIG EAST Conference Schedule Against Georgetown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (4-2, 0-0 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team enters Saturday's game against BIG EAST foe Georgetown with a 4-2 overall record. Providence has won four-straight games since dropping its first two contests of the season. The Friars have allowed just one goal in their last four games and have registered shut-out victories in each of the last three. Providence defeated in-state rival Rhode Island on September 12 in its most recent game, by a score of 2-0.

Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) leads the team in scoring with six points on three goals. Freshman Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) is second among her teammates in scoring with five points on two goals and one assist. Senior Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.), senior Michalagh Stoddard (Norwood, Mass.), junior Meghan Holden (Worcester, Mass.) and junior Ali Kornfeld (Kingston, Pa.) each have recorded four points through the first six games of the season. Junior Jessica Lane (South Windsor, Conn.) leads the Friars in assists (three).

Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) has allowed just four goals in six games this year and has registered 22 saves in 406 minutes. She currently owns a 0.69 goals against average and a 0.846 save percentage.

Providence is averaging 15.3 shot attempts per game and its defense is holding the opposition to an average of 7.2 shots per game. The Friars average 2.17 goals per game, while holding their opponents to 0.67 goals per contest.

Last season, PC defeated Georgetown 3-0 on September 20 in Washington, D.C. Saturday's game between PC and Georgetown marks the first meeting between the two teams at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I.

Upon completion of the match-up with the Hoyas, the Friars close out their five-game homestand against Northeastern on Wednesday, September 19. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.

GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY (1-5, 0-0 BIG EAST): The Georgetown University field hockey team enters Saturday's BIG EAST opener vs. Providence with a 1-5 overall record. The Hoyas' only victory of the year came against St. Francis (Pa.) (4-1) on August 31. Georgetown is in the midst of a three-game winless streak. In the Hoyas last outting, they were defeated by Towson (3-1) on September 12.

Katie Lachman leads the Hoyas in scoring with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Micaela O'Toole is second on the team in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist.

Deirdre Crovo and Tiffany Kaszuba each have started three games for Georgetown in goal. Crovo owns an 0-3 record, while Kaszuba stands at 1-2. In 214 minutes, Crovo has posted a 3.60 goals against average and a 0.560 save percentage. Kaszuba has played 227 minutes and has registered a 3.70 goals against average and a 0.500 save percentage.
