PROVIDENCE TO FACE CONNECTICUT IN BIG EAST DOUBLEHEADER... Providence College will travel to Storrs, Connecticut to take on the UConn Huskies in a BIG EAST doubleheader on Saturday, April 7. FRIARS VERSUS UCONN... Saturday's doubleheader between the two teams will mark the 79th and 80th all-time meetings. The Huskies hold a 65-13 all-time record against the Friars.
FRIARS RECORD 24 HITS... In PC's 15-10, eight-inning win over St. John's on April, the Friars recorded a season-high 24 hits. Eight Friars had multiple hits, including freshman Jenna Garcia (Morro Bay, Calif.) and sophomore Gina Rossi (Bakersfield, Calif.), who had four hits each. The Friars also matched a season high four home runs (PC also hit four home runs vs. Charleston Southern on 3/3). The 24 hits fell two short of a BIG EAST record, however, the 37 hits between the two teams set a BIG EAST record. The old record for most hits in a both teams was 32 set in a contest last season between Pittsburgh and Notre Dame. In addition, PC and St. John's set a BIG EAST record for combined total bases (59), shattering the old record of 41 set in 1999.
BARTHOLOMEW LEADING THE WAY FOR PC... Senior catcher Rachel Bartholomew (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) leads the Friars in numerous offensive categories this season, including batting average (.388), hits (31), home runs (4), RBIs (20), doubles (6), slugging percentage (.613) and on-base percentage (.437). Bartholomew has had at least one hit in 19 of the 24 games this season. She also has 11 multiple-hit games. In BIG EAST games only, Bartholomew leads the team with 13 hits and a .500 batting average. She ranks in top-five in the BIG EAST in hits, doubles and on-base percentage. Bartholomew was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on April 2.
BARTHOLOMEW BREAKING PC RECORDS... Rachel Bartholomew, who holds several PC records, such as home runs (32) and RBIs (131), continues to move up the charts and several other categories. She also ranks fourth all-time in runs scored (99) and fifth in hits (186).
FRIARS IN CLOSE GAMES... The Friars have posted a 4-5 record this season in one-run games, including a 1-3 mark in BIG EAST Conference contests. In addition, the Friars are 5-1 in extra inning games.
HEAD COACH Kerri Jacklets... In just her first season as head coach, Kerri Jacklets, a 2001 Providence College graduate, guided her team to a 29-19-1 record and a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 1996. Jacklets served as an assistant coach in 2005 at Providence. Prior to that, she was an assistant at Brown for three seasons. She enjoyed a stellar career as a catcher at Providence from 1998-01. She ranks second all-time at the College in batting average (.315), fifth all-time in home runs (18) and sixth all-time in hits (179). In 2001, she was named to the All-Northeast Region First Team and was a four-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
SUROSKY CLIMBING THE WIN CHART... PC senior pitcher Sara Surosky (Elmira, N.Y.) is now in a second-place tie for all-time wins at Providence College. Surosky, who has 38 career wins, including six this season, is second behind Amy Kvilhaug `96, who has 72. In addition, Surosky has 351 career strikeouts, which ranks fourth all-time at Providence. This season, Surosky has a 6-7 record, a 3.01 ERA, 68 strikeouts, five complete games and two shutouts in 14 appearances.

Louisville was picked to finish first with seven first-place votes, followed by USF, Notre Dame, DePaul, and Syracuse to round out the top-five. Pittsburgh was chosen to place sixth. The Friars ended the 2006 season with a 29-19-1 overall record and an 11-11 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. It marked the team's third consecutive winning season. The 11-11 mark was good enough for sixth in the conference as the Friars qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 1996. In addition, PC's 11 BIG EAST wins were the most by a Friar team since 1995.
