KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Providence College softball team (5-3) recorded two victories on Wednesday, March 8 at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Friars defeated Toledo, 8-7, in the first game and then posted a 3-1 win over Maine in the nightcap.
PC junior pitcher Sara Surosky (Elmira, N.Y.) earned her third victory of the season as she pitched a complete game against Maine. She allowed one run on three hits and struck 14 batters.
The Friars trailed 1-0 after four innings, but scored twice in the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Senior Tara Sullivan (Tualatin, Ore.) and freshman Lindsey Arria (Hanover, Mass.) each hit a single and came around to score as the Friars held the lead for the first time in the game. Sullivan gave the Friars an insurance run as she smacked her first collegiate home run in the fifth inning.
With the two wins, the Friars finished with a 5-3 record at the Rebel Spring Games. PC will face South Carolina State on Friday, March 10 at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
