KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Providence College softball team (4-3) dropped two games on Tuesday, March 7 at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Friars fell to Yale, 4-3, in the first game and were defeated by St. Joseph's, 5-4, in 10 innings.

The Friars took a 2-0 first inning lead versus Yale. Freshman Gina Rossi (Bakersfield, Calif.) led off the inning with a double and came into score on a double by senior Michele Bowers (Staten Island, N.Y.). Bowers eventually scored on a error. Yale scored three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead. Aracelis Torres capped off the inning with a two-run single. The Bulldogs added one more run in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead.

PC climbed to within 4-3 in the sixth inning as senior Tara Sullivan (Tualatin, Ore.) hit an RBI single to score junior Caroline Santilli (Westwood, Mass.), who pinch ran for sophomore Sam Pittman (San Diego, Calif.). However, the Friars could not score the equalizer as Yale went on to win.

Friar junior pitcher Sara Surosky (Elmira, N.Y.) went seven innings and allowed four runs (none earned) and struck out five batters. Yale's Deanna DiBernardi earned the win, allowing three runs and posting four strikeouts.

Against St. Joseph's, the Friars trailed 2-0 until the sixth inning, when junior Rachel Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) belted a two-run home run. It marked the team's first home run of the season. The Friars took a 4-2 lead in the eighth inning on RBI doubles by senior Michelle Willette (Moorpark, Calif.) and Pittman. However, the Hawks scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game. St. Joseph's won the game in the 10th inning as Dani Gonzales hit an RBI single.

Lauren Hughes earned the win for the Hawks as she pitched two scoreless innings, striking out one batter. Surosky pitched nine-plus innings and struck out seven batters.
